If you’ve finally made the decision to ditch the razor and wave goodbye to waxing for good in favour of laser hair removal, then we are very excited for you! Your journey to smooth, hair-free skin is just beginning!
If you’ve got your first treatment booked in then we thought we’d let you in on a few of the secrets to getting the most out of your laser hair removal sessions. Let’s make sure your laser hair removal is a success!
Secret #1 – You’re going to need more than one session
You might be lucky enough to see a difference after your first session, and after a few it’s bound to be significant! But it’s super important to keep coming back for your treatments until your course is complete. The reason for that is your hair goes through different hair growth stages (anagen, catagen and telogen). Laser hair removal lasers are only successful at destroying the hair follicle in the anagen stage of the hair growth cycle, which is when your hair is actively growing. To make sure every hair is targeted during the anagen stage, you need your treatment sessions to be spaced out over a set period of time, usually every 6-8 weeks for 8 sessions.
Secret #2 – Don’t skip appointments
We know, we know – Life gets busy! But sometimes you need to prioritise YOU and if you want your laser hair removal journey to be as successful as possible, then you need to keep to your appointment schedule. Don’t be fooled by the fact that your hair already seems significantly reduced – It’s vital you complete the course of sessions for the effect to last.
Depending on the area being treated, appointments could be as short as 15 minutes!
Secret #3 – Shave the treatment area before your appointment
Unlike with waxing, you can actually shave the area you are having treated just before your appointment. There’s no awkward regrowth showing with laser hair removal! It’s likely to be more successful if you shave about 24 hours before your laser hair removal appointment as the laser can target the hair follicle easier and destroy it more successfully.
Secret #4 – Avoid the sunshine
This one is probably the most important as it significantly reduces the likelihood of an adverse reaction. You need to avoid sun exposure and/or tanning at least 14 days either side of a laser hair removal session. That means using a good quality sunblock if you’re out and about enjoying the warm weather.
It’s very important to be honest with your laser hair removal technician about any sun exposure so that they can make sure it is safe to continue with the treatment.
To avoid interrupting your treatment programme, it’s best to just avoid the sun! The laser hair removal results will be more than worth it in the long run.
